PROGRAM NOTES

In five movements:

Many Worlds [1] is based on a series of poems written specifically for the project by New York poet Jonathan Aprea. Jonathan’s poems address the “many worlds” hypothesis of quantum physics - the idea that every observed event branches reality into separate dimensions, each with different outcomes of that event. The composition, in turn, develops small microcosms of sound, which communicate with one another in different ways as the piece progresses. I find it both comforting and disconcerting to think that, somewhere out there amidst an infinite number of realities, there may be a version of me that has made all the right choices - the “perfect” me. Many Worlds 1 strives to capture both that comfort and its corresponding discomfiture.
