Ten Pieces for Children was composed for a recording project featuring the New Orleans-based ensemble Musaica. Titled Awake in a Dream, the album was intended to spark the imaginations of young listeners. In keeping with the spirit of the project, each of these small pieces has a programmatic title, meant to inspire — and perhaps accompany — a bedtime story.
