A MOMENT OF TRANSITION (2024)

Duration ca. 13:00
PROGRAM NOTES
Kierkegaard famously wrote that life must be lived forward, but can only be understood backwards. What he meant was that one can never stop time in order to objectively survey the past without also hurtling forward into the future. He's right, of course. But a moment of transition imagines that perhaps, in some sort of alternate existence, during a particularly agonizing, glorious horrible experience, one could stop – and, while stopped, reflect on the innocence of the past, fully absorb the enormity of the present, and imagine the beauty of the future.
Commissioned by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Harp Society for their June 16-19, 2024 National Conference in Orlando, FL. Premiered by members of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in Canaveral Recital Hall, Orlando, FL (June 2024).
