PROGRAM NOTES
Love & Loss & Loathing & Lizards is an exploration of a character’s conflicting instincts in the wake of romantic disappointment. The two vocalists - a soprano and an MC - express contrasting opinions about how to handle the situation, while the ensemble alternates between smooth lounge jazz and freewheeling improvisation. This piece was my first composition for the extraordinary ensemble ShoutHouse, and takes full advantage of the group’s flexibility and virtuosity.
