PROGRAM NOTES
pOwer trIo is inspired by “The Clapper” - an 1980s/90s era tool that allowed users to clap their electronic gadgets on and off. Throughout the piece, percussive “claps” switch certain ideas on and others off. Other portions of the music utilize idioms and textures drawn from free jazz. The tension in the piece arises from the interplay between these elements - the rigidly structured vs. the very free.
