THE CONQUEROR (2009)
For Wind Ensemble (Grade 4)
Duration ca. 5:00
PROGRAM NOTES
The Conqueror was written for a celebration of Marches at Loyola University New Orleans in 2009. It derives its structure, character, and musical language from the great works of John Philip Sousa. As a means of acknowledging the inherent silliness of writing a Sousa-style march in the 21st century, the piece is also imbued with a sly sense of humor, especially during its whimsical, sing-songy second theme.
Written for the Loyola University New Orleans Wind Ensemble. Premiered at Roussell Hall in New Orleans, LA (March 2009).
